Pecan Plantation History
The land itself got its start centuries ago but was really purchased in 1949 by a prominent Fort Worth businessman using the development for a large pecan and peach orchard. By 1956, it was one of the largest pecan orchards in Texas and the second-largest in the US. With the opening of Lake Granbury in 1969, the dynamics of the area had changed. In 1968, family members decided it to devote some of the development to residential communities. The country club, golf course, airport, and several parks and recreational areas were opened in 1971 and the Association was formed in 1972 by the developers. In 1991, the land was required for a second golf course in Pecan Plantation currently known as the Nutcracker Golf Club.
Today, Pecan Plantation consists of about 3200 residential lots with over 2500 homes completed. The future of the total number of developed lots on the original 4200 acres is not said to exceed 4500. The owners still plan to maintain Pecan Plantation and its unique setting is one of the most outstanding residential neighborhoods in Texas.
